GREAT LAKES BOAT BUILDING SCHOOL ACHIEVES ACCREDITATION

CEDARVILLE, MICHIGAN – APRIL 12, 2018 –  Great Lakes Boat Building School, the only boat building school in the State of Michigan, has been awarded accreditation status by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). The application process consumed 24 months of effort. Accreditation distinguishes the School from other educational/training facilities by demonstrating compliance with ACCSC standards and by offering well developed programs that prepare students for careers in boat building, marine electrical systems, marine systems, propulsion systems, wooden boat restoration and repair, fine woodworking, and other marine industries.

Reflecting on the length of time and the effort demanded in order to achieve success in the application process, Joseph D. Reid, Chairman of the Board noted, “Going through the process challenged us to find better ways to serve our students and has been a continuous reminder that our responsibility is to our students and the quality of the education experience we provide.  For our current students, potential students, and their eventual employers the certificate of accreditation means that an independent, non-profit agency recognized by the United States Department of Education has closely examined and approved our facility, procedures, and teaching methods.”

Status as an accredited institution means Great Lakes Boat Building School has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality education as set by ACCSC. Over 650 post-secondary, trade, and technical schools across the United States are accredited by ACCSC. ACCSC accredited schools serve over 150,000 students nationwide. Not all schools seek accreditation; not all undergoing the application and on-site survey are granted accreditation.

Institutions seeking accreditation undergo an extensive self-assessment and several on-site readiness assessments by ACCSC education and industry experts. The process is consultative and educational in nature, presenting best practices to help an institution improve the quality of student services and education.

The standards driving accreditation ensure that the educational experience at Great Lakes Boat Building School is well-coordinated, competent, outcomes-oriented, and delivered by a skilled and supported team.
