Local wooden boat enthusiasts were in search of a way to keep the tradition and skills of wooden boat building alive, thus beginning a trade school which focused solely on wooden boats. In 2006, a 12,000 square foot facility was built and the first student enrolled that fall.

One of the most valuable things I learned at [the school] is that there are always different ways to do things and finding your own way is okay, as long as the finished product is quality. Another benefit of attending is that the school taught me the basics of carpentry. When I graduated high school, I had never touched a tool. The [Comprehensive Career Boat Building Program] taught me how to properly use those tools!
