BEER FEST SELLS OUT!!!

We’ll never forget our first Beer Fest held in 2010…a beautiful day, promising a perfect evening, and then, just as the festivities began, the sky blackened and a wild wind came up in seemingly minutes, brining endless driving sheets of rain.  Three hundred-some brave souls huddled together under the tent, creating a blur of Army-surplus and yellow slickers while North Country Band never gave up keeping everyone’s spirits undampened.  Believe it not, it was great!!!

Yes…Beer Fest began to serve as an end-of-summer “thank you” to the Les Cheneaux community, with tickets fairly-priced to encourage anyone and everyone to come celebrate together…its popularity has helped it to develop into GLBBS’s primary fundraiser.  The event has been sustained every year by the efforts of a dedicated staff and loyal volunteers.  A boat auction was added, then wine tasting, and last year the Les Cheneaux Arts Council came onboard, producing a highly successful silent auction that brought in 35 Northern Michigan artists and artisans to net $2,500 for the school.

No resting on laurels, though!  This year attendance jumped close to 600, with 45 artists participating to raise over $3,700 for the School.  The boat auction featured a 1985 Catalina (sold), a 1956 Lyman Islander (sold), a 1950 Thompson runabout (sold), and a gorgeous Gartside Sloop built by the School (SOLD!).  The Fisherman’s Launch, still a work in progress at the school, had an opening bid of $20k and is still available.

Those in attendance were treated to dinner on the School’s waterfront lawn, music from the Beach Chickens, and great beverages from Michigan wineries and breweries.
