Duke Harding Scholarship Awarded

Danton Thon (pictured center) is the first recipient of the Duke Harding Memorial Scholarship at GLBBS! The scholarship commemorates the late Frank “Duke” Harding, III. A long-time summer resident along with his wife Martha, Duke enjoyed boating and fishing around Les Cheneaux Islands. Harding Family friends David and Jane Dunn of Hessel, Michigan (pictured left) were on hand for the awarding of the scholarship. David spoke movingly about Duke and his fondness for the boat school. Established with memorial contributions from family and friends of Duke Harding, the scholarship is awarded annually to a second-year student at GLBBS. Danton Thon is the son of John and Sharon Thon of Mason, Michigan (pictured right).

“Danton is the ideal recipient of this award. He is eager to leave his mark on the wooden boat building profession in a way that would make Duke proud.”
