GLBBS Hosts Continuing Education Courses for Marine Professionals

Great Lakes Boat Building School has partnered with the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) to offer continuing education and certification courses to Marine Professionals.

 

This week, instructor Mike Downey was joined by six individuals from all over the state of Michigan to take part in our first ever continuing education offering.  The Marine Systems course took place over three days from January 21-23.

This course was designed for the marine professional with experience working with marine systems design, installation or repair. The program provided students with a comprehensive and focused look at the key ABYC Standards.

The three day class format included an online learning component designed to provide preliminary coursework prior to the class. Students were also given tours of the Great Lakes Boat Building School workshop facility.

Topics covered included:

  • Potable water systems
  • Marine sanitation systems
  • Tankage
  • Hull piping
  • Electrical installations
  • Compressed gas for cooking and heating
  • Air conditioning and refrigeration systems
  • Fuel systems (gas and diesel)
  • Steering and control systems
  • Accessory control systems
  • Fire protection systems
  • General knowledge and boatyard etiquette.

There are two other additional classes scheduled for first half of 2019.
