The Huron20 is based on the Albury outboard runabout – a popular and seaworthy skiff built
by the notable Albury Brothers Boat Company on Man O’ War Cay, Abaco, Bahamas. The
waters of the more sheltered parts of the Great Lakes are ideal for this type of craft. Built
around the success of the Albury, the Huron20 (H20) will be built in two models based on the same hull.
First, a traditional lapstrake sided smooth bottomed utility style runabout, built of cold molded
mahogany, plywood and glass with a typical two seats forward open cockpit with a bench seat
layout, similar in style to those such as Lyman, Penn Yan, and Thompson. Second will be a more
modern layout with a center console and a self-bailing cockpit.
At 19’7’’ and 2400 lbs displacement, the Huron20 is a substantial boat for its size. With a vee
bottom and outboard power in the 90 to 120 HP range, this boat will stand up to a substantial
chop without pounding or feeling wet and have the power to run on flat water into the 40+
MPH range. Hydraulic steering, electrical system to support modern needs such as stereos,
trolling motor, device chargers and more comes standard. 30 gallons of fuel located in
permanent tanks under the cockpit floor keeps weight low, and larger than standard bilge
pumping capacity all built to ABYC standards.
