Shipwright’s Opportunity Society – S.O.S.

An SOS is a call for help from anyone that is able.  No matter which level you choose to participate in, your membership will make a difference for a future shipwright.

By joining Great Lakes Boat Building School’s Shipwrights Opportunity Society you support students through things like tuition reduction, additional learning opportunities, and resource development.  You also get to enjoy some pretty great rewards while getting to know the students you are supporting.

Regardless of the level you select, you can rest assured that your donation will directly benefit a future shipwright during their time at GLBBS. All Full Tuition Donors ($13,000) in the Shipwrights Opportunity Society receive the same benefits:

  • Paired with a future shipwright recipient
  • Souvenirs from the boat your student is building, a personalized thank you from your student, photographs of your student’s progress, etc.
  • Invitations and top seating priority for GLBBS events
  • Special Student/SOS Member functions
  • Free Enrollment in a GLBBS Summer Workshop
  • Permanent Campus Recognition
  • Discounts at select Maritime Museums
  • Federal tax deduction
  • Recognition online
  • A car decal
  • A membership card and membership perks

The Shipwrights Opportunity Society is one of the most rewarding ways to become involved in Great Lakes Boat Building School. Individuals can truly experience membership in the S.O.S family by sponsoring a GLBBS student and following their progress throughout their time in Cedarville.

1.) Choose your level of participation by making a donation to the S.O.S. online, by mail, or over the phone @ (906)484-1081.  All checks should be made out to Great Lakes Boat Building School and mailed to GLBBS Shipwrights Opportunity Society; 485 S Meridian; Cedarville, MI 49719

2.) You will be paired with a future shipwright and receive information about that student.  The level that you’ve chosen determines the level of interaction you will have the opportunity to have with your shipwright.  You will receive periodic updates about your student’s progress including personal correspondence from the student.

3.) You will also be rewarded for your donation with exclusive perks (see the chart below)
