Ways to Give

GLBBS is a qualified 501c(3) educational institution.  All gifts are tax deductible.

Named Scholarships

Because of generous donors like you, we are privileged to award scholarships to deserving students each year. Friends and alumni can create a scholarship in honor or memory of a loved one by establishing the scholarship name, award criteria and funding method. Annual scholarships make a significant difference by reducing the education costs of Great Lakes Boat Building School students.

Currently the school offers four named scholarships through the Les Cheneaux Community Foundation to which individuals may make contributions.

  • Bonnie Mikkelsen Endowed Scholarship Fund
  • Frank “Duke” Harding Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund
  • George H. Nickels Memorial Endowment Scholarship Fund
  • Thomas “Tommy” Mertaugh Scholarship Fund

For more information please contact Ryan Hinnen, Executive Director for Development at (906)484-1081, via email, or visit the Les Cheneaux Community Foundation’s webpage here.

PLANNED GIVING

Help students and leave a legacy with gifts of cash, real estate, appreciated securities like stocks and bonds, retirement assets and beneficiary designations through bequests and life insurance. All may be donated to GLBBS.

Corporate Partnerships

GLBBS is preparing the next generation of skilled craftsmen and craftswomen. We offer many ways for your corporation or foundation to partner with us. In addition, we welcome your ideas for building a strong alliance. Please contact our Executive Director for Development, Ryan Hinnen, at (906)484-1081 to begin your partnership with Great Lakes Boat Building School.

GIFTS IN-KIND

A gift of personal property may include equipment, boats, inventory, books, works of art, or other tangible property. Gifts-in-kind will be used to benefit the school as designated by the donor. Acceptance of the gift is based on whether we can use the gift in furtherance of our mission. Consideration will be given to the cost of accepting and maintaining the gift as well as costs associated with potential resale of the gift.

Depending upon the donor’s tax circumstances, a charitable deduction may be claimed if the gift is accepted for the School’s tax-exempt purposes.

VOLUNTEERING

It takes an awful lot of horsepower to accomplish the things we do at GLBBS and that is why our volunteers mean so much to us. We are proud of the three volunteer groups that help us throughout the year – our Board of Directors, the Program Advisory Board, and the GLBBS Crew.
